Ourfriendship with Carol and Ernie goes back to 1986 when we obtained our first dog in the Adirondack Mountains and Carol was my dog obedience instructor. Ken and Ernie were also both working for the NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation at that time and knew each other professionally. Carol was always a role model for me with her love and dedication and knowledge of dogs and dog training. Her kind and encouraging support helped me overcome great shyness as I ventured into the world of competitive obedience trials. I then went on to have success in the cut-throat conformation ring including Westminster, with a series of flat-coated retrievers, and Ken and I started having interest in field work as well. When we lost our first dog, a sweet Golden, we came back to Carol for a well bred Golden, and became more serious about field training. It was a hobby that soon became a passion, and within just a couple of years our first Adirondac Golden, Adirondac Amber Aspengrove was running AKC Master level hunt test, becoming the first Adirondac Golden to earn the title. We went on to co-own another Adirondac Golden with Carol, Adirondac My-Tee Marcy and life only got better. We've had tremendous fun and success with our Goldens and they are treasured family members as well as accomplished title holders and hunting companions. Marcy's 2 daughters Xena (Adirondac Warrior Princess) and Brandi (Adirondac Mountain Royal-Tee), also co-owned with Carol now live with us too, and are already following in their mother's footsteps and carrying on her legacy. We feel very honored to be entrusted with some of Carol's wonderful girls and to be included in her breeding program. We've lived with, boarded, and trained many dogs over the years, and nothing compares to the intelligence, health and ability of these Adirondac Goldens. They are true "Old Time" Goldens, unspoiled by fad or poor breeding practices, able to work a full day in the field (or obedience, or agility, or therapy dog work, etc) and then come home and be a content couch potato and loving companion. True Gold, every one!

I am a retired college professor and a Golden lover almost by default. My son owned a Mississippi bred Golden that was a family pet until he moved to a job in the Midwest and couldn't take her. I couldn't bear to see his lovely Heidi living with anyone else so she joined us in South Carolina. Her intelligence, devotion, loyalty and friendliness convinced me that I would not be without a Golden as long as I could hold it together. As she aged I knew it was time to bridge the gap with a new pup. The source of all knowledge these days, my computer, led me to Carol's web site. It was not the first I looked at, but it was the last. The look of her dogs was exactly what I wanted. Even in just a picture, it's hard to hide intelligence. In the Spring of 2002, Heidi and I took a road trip to Mexico, NY that has shaped my retirement years as I would never have expected. I bought Adirondac Belle Tess as a 7 week old puppy and discovered, thanks to Carol, the whole world of field training and Hunt tests. I have participated in more than 20 hunt tests and countless hours of training and reading about training. Tess was more than I could ever have bargained for and we are going for her AKC Master title and her UKC finished titles this fall of 2005.
One writer, Tom Quinn said that you should have an old dog, a warrior and a pup. So now Heidi is my old dog, Tess is my warrior and Blue Ridge Barty, Tess's half brother co-owned with Carol, is my 1 year old pup as of August 2005. And he is coming on strong.
I have had the great good fortune to train with Connie Cleveland, an Internationally known top 10 National Field Trial finalist for the last 3 years. Carol and Connie have shaped my retirement years to the extent that one of the first questions my friends now ask is, "How are the dogs doing?" Surely I have "gone to the dogs" but what a way to go.

I gave Maxine the opportunity to write her own bio but as she didn't she'll have to endure my rendition.
We've been wonderful friends since the late 1980's when my husband Ernie (the Fish Doctor) and I moved to Mexico to operate our charter business full time. Maxine is also a "First Mate". I needed a home for Adirondac Lady Slipper CD in 1992 and thought of Maxine and Bob. Bob was not even neutral about the idea, he was NEGATIVE! But when I showed them her obedience skills on the sidewalk that January day, I could see him changing from "NO WAY" to "I've got to have that dog!" Maxine and I went on to co-own Adirondac Maple Candy CDX, TD, CGC then Adirondac Miss Minehaha CDX, AX, OAJ, JH, TD, WC, CGC. Maxine shifted gears from providing human day care to becoming one of the finest dog trainers I've ever known. She can not get enough challenge. She says it's because of the dogs she's had to work with, but I give her more of the credit. She has accomplished Senior Hunter and WCX in Field, UD in Obedience, TD's, OAJ in Agility, and does therapy work all with the same dogs. Our current co-owns, Polly, Dandelion and Addy should have a bright future with plenty of time in the ring, fields and ribbons.

My Adirondac Golden History
In June 2003, Carol offered me co-ownership of Adirondac Reddog Ruger. Along with this came a self-imposed sense of responsibility to work on another title or two for him. Time to get back into the obedience ring after a 22 year absence—yikes! It took me a while to build my confidence, but Ruger got his first Open leg in our first show January 6, 2007. What a thrill!
We first met Carol when Bill, and I decided to get a puppy as a wedding present to each other in 1981. At the time we knew nothing about dogs—never mind obedience, field training or any of the rest. And Brandon was a handful--small and red and bursting with energy--along with a classic Adirondac Retriever desire to hunt (all the time). We had to learn fast! With Carol’s help we got a thorough introduction to field and obedience training. That was the beginning of what has turned out to be a great friendship. We were hooked and got dog #2, Jake, less than a year later. Brandon and Jake both went on to get CD’s and Brandon got a WC. Brandon even qualified for a JAM in Derby once, but Brandon and Jake later became happy house pets as babies, graduate studies, career changes and moves across the country and back consumed all our time.
We finally settled in Wisconsin and when Jake passed away at age 14, we stopped to visit with Carol during a vacation trip to NY. Our sons, 8 and 11 years old at the time, said a quick hello and immediately ran off to find Carol’s dogs. Soon a very excited little voice drifted back through the woods—“Mom—there’s a puppy here!!!” Okie came home to Wisconsin with us and helped Bill discover the joys of pheasant and grouse hunting in the Midwest.
After Okie passed away, Carol offered us co-ownership of Ruger. Hmmm…Ruger or a puppy?? We couldn’t decide—so we got both! So, here we are 26 years later, with Adirondac dogs #4 and #5, and both kids off at college--perfect timing to get back into training. I am happily re-immersed in the dog training world and Bill and the dogs hunt as often as they can each fall. All five of our Adirondac dogs (yes they have all been boys) have been smart, sweet and hard working. We got the same basic temperament each time—but with enough unique behaviors each time to make us smile and to keep us on our toes for training techniques. We would never go to another kennel! |

Dawn has been a long time friend that I met through running hunt tests. She's a wonderful and experienced judge and trainer, and I've learned so much from her! She's taught me how to force-feetch a dog and shown me many effective training drills and tactics tht work in training and tests. She's the owner of Adirondac Bust'd At The Bordr CDX SH NAP NJP WCX,(Trooper) a boy of many talents.
With the death of her old Golden, Mac, Dawn had a big empty place to fill and we decided to co-own one of Trooper's nieces, Adirondac Mountain Renegade (Ren). The pup shows great promise and I'm sure under Dawn's tutelege she'll be a top contender in many venues.
Dawn is a highly skilled Veterinary Technician who has the answer to most of my medical dilemmas. I'm so pleased she's joined our team.
